Neighbouring the Millennium Golf Course, this course is another modern undertaking which offers a relaxing clubhouse, flat terrain and views for miles around. It opened in 1990, and frequent upkeep means that it remains one of Vilamoura’s most treasured courses.
It is notably different from other courses in the Vilamoura region, as it has more of a links feel to it. Lacking the numerous pine trees found on nearby courses, Laguna Golf Course places more emphasis on its bunkers and water hazards.
Sand traps are frequently found alongside the fairway, and can be sizeable. Take the bunker to the right of the 11th fairway, which is large enough to include two grass islands.
Other holes do not contain much in the way of tricky obstacles, but when there are challenges they are considerable. The approach to the green from the Par 3 12th relies on the avoidance of a huge lake between tee and green.
If during your stay in Vilamoura, you are looking for a course which is a bit easier on the knees, then Laguna Golf Course is the one to go for. Perhaps the course most similar to ones found within the United Kingdom, it offers a challenging links experience with beautiful views of Portugal to boot.
