Morgado Golf Course is among the newest additions to the Algarve’s impressive golfing portfolio, having opened for business in 2003. The course is located just North of Portimao and combines Mountain views with mature Portuguese countryside. With 18 holes, this is a more open and easier course, with the features of a links course – with flat fairways and bunkers of Scottish inspiration – but, instead of being along the seaside as the traditional links, it’s placed inside parkland. The card presents a par of 73 strokes, although the length of the round is attenuated by the generous width of the fairways. However, the less accomplished strokes can be penalised by any one of the many bunkers distributed over the course.
Salgados Golf Course, which is situated next to Salgados Beach, enjoys the sea breeze and a setting of environmental richness. It is next door to one of Europe’s unique nature reserves, which has a lake and is home to exotic birds. This course, which is located in Herdade dos Salgados, just 10 minutes from the centre of Albufeira, has 18 holes. The Salgados Golf Course is very different to other Algarve courses and has a distinctive links feel to it offering guests breathtaking views of the ocean and the surrounding scenery. 16 out of 18 of the holes contain water so accuracy is imperative when playing a round here.
Although the length of the round is relatively short, Álamos Golf Course is a constant challenge. With 18 holes, this is a fairly technical but narrow course, with greens that are smaller and very elaborate, undulating. The enormous putting surfaces are noted for their severe slopes, and are guarded by treacherous bunkers. The raised greens play havoc with club selection, while Alamos is also punctuated with a number of hazardous water features; in fact, the course is formulated around three large lakes, which provide both excitement and aesthetic beauty.
