Quinta do Lago North

Quinta do Lago’s north course, originally designed by William Mitchell and Rocky Roquemore, is perhaps known among golfers as the slightly less challenging between the north and south courses. A 2014 redesign, contributed to by former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, saw the course heavily upgraded with the drainage and greens receiving plenty of attention.

The north course displays features typical to the Algarve – fairways which are sheltered by lines of pine trees, complemented by bunkers and a fair few water hazards. On many holes, players will face a blind tee shot. All par 4s include sharp dog-legs, with the exception of only the 10th and 13th. The course’s par 5s all require powerful yet accurate tee shots, as long distance is combined with narrow routes between the pines.

Suited for golfers who can naturally draw the ball, the course is also home to some lakes which turn out to be common pitfalls for even advanced players. These are located on the 13th and 18th hole. Although there are some unforgiving elements, the 2014 redesign saw the incorporation of low-cut Bermuda grass, which creates more amateur-friendly conditions around the greens. Golfers of all levels can enjoy the north course at Quinta do Lago.

The courses are owned by the same company that owns the nearby Magnolia Hotel and guests staying at the Magnolia are offered discounted green fees.
