Designed by Rocky Roquemore, based upon sketches by Sir Henry Cotton, the Vale do Lobo Royal Golf Course presents undulating fairways lined with challenging pine trees and wild flowers. The course was opened in 1997, and has since been enjoyed by golfers of all skill levels.
Highlights include the world famous 16th hole. This is a par 3 which runs alongside the beach, requiring a tee shot lofted over a clifftop. The view from the 16th tee is one of the most recognisable photos in all of golf, and is certainly a highlight for all who play the Vale do Lobo Royal Golf Course.
Perhaps best reserved for frequent golfers due to its hilly terrain and frequent water hazards, the course is still one of the most famous in the world. Tee shots require high accuracy, and the coastal holes can be tough to navigate if the wind is up. Between the two courses at Vale do Lobo, the Royal Golf Course represents a slightly bigger challenge.
